IERM
The Institute of Environment and Recreation Management

Governance

Our institute is a common-law association registered as a non-profit organisation with the department of social welfare. Our founding document is a constitution. Read more.

The annual convention of members ultimately controls the organisation, with the help of an executive council, who are appointed annually by members in their respective provincial branches.

Meetings of the organisation is chaired by a president and president elect, who respectively serves a three-year term in office. The president elect automatically becomes the president when the sitting president retires. At that time the members in convention elects a new president elect.

The day to day operations of the institute is managed by the general secretary and the staff at our secretariat.

Membership of the institute are organisational. Each municipality that is a member is represented by the head of its parks and recreation function.
