Listed here are the various projects undertaken by the IERM.
Current and Recently Completed Projects -


Arbor City Awards:
The annual award for greening excellence to South African Cities. It is a joint award between the IERM and the Department of Water. The award is awarded on an annual basis by the Minister of Water Affairs.

WAFA Scholarship Trust Fund:
Students studying towards a qualification in the field of horticulture, landscape technology, parks and recreation administration or nature conservation are invited to apply for the IERM/WAFA Scholarship.

Kirstenbosch Scholarship:
Awarded to qualified horticulturists with at least two years' experience. Candidates should have a special aptitude for botany and research work connected with indigenous flora. The duration of the scholarship is one year.

Standards Generating Body for Horticulture (In Progress):
The IERM actively promoted the establishment of a Standards Generating Body for Horticulture & Landscape. The SGB is now operational.


National Examination Board - ongoing practical exams:
Volunteers from around the country present practical examinations to Technikon Students. The examinations provide external proof of the level of practical expertise that students have acquired during their tenure at formal educational institutions. The examination results are of great value to employers when selecting recently qualified staff.


International Contact Programme - Ongoing:
Informal programme to bring international guests to our part of the world, too address workshops and to exchange knowledge with local members. Christo Coetzer, past president of the Ierm, is currently serving as President of the International Federation of Parks and Recreation Administration.


Legal certification of Horticulture, Recreation, Conservation and Local Tourism Professionals. - process ongoing:
Process lead by several IERM Executive Council Members aimed at changing the Landscape Architects Professions Act so that the Act will include professional registration and protection mechanisms for various related professions prevalent amongst our members.
